United (Hillsong) v.s. Passion
United's latest release "United We Stand" is one of their best so far. United is definately geared for teenagers (obviously since it comes from Hillsong Church's youth ministry). The music sounds like mainstream mondern rock, but the lyrics are usually not as mature as something like Passion. On THIS CD however, there are several new, fresh, insighful tunes. Joel Houston and Marty Sampson are becoming great songwriters.
The DVD that comes with this release is pretty sweet. Other than the beginning of it looking like Coldplay's latest tour....but I am not so sure that is a bad thing really...if you can pull it off. I was suprised that the video production wasn't a distraction but rather enhanced the experience.
Passion's new release "Everything Glorious" is another good effort. I am finding that I now enjoy the hymn remakes that Passion does more than the original tunes that the Passion regulars churn out. (PLEASE, no hate mail after these comments).
Crowder is refreshing on occation, but not very singable for most peeps (I'm a good one to talk). I like what Hall does with loops and what-not (that was one of the "cool-factors" Among Thorns used to have).
Our God Reigns is a nice way close. I am NOT EVEN going to talk about "Party". Uhhh....
For the record, I never thought I would see the day that a "worship leader-artist would win "Male Vocalist Of The Year". Congrats Chris.
One day I would like to see a recording land in the middle of what United and Passion both respectfully do. Hmm...maybe I'll get to work on that. Shaun, you in?

I just got United's new CD, and it is GREAT!
I have heard the Passion stuff for so long I guess I am kind of over it. Not that I don't like it, I just want to sing a new song, just want something different.
The "Everlasting" song on the new Hillsong (United) record is great. I cried when I first heard it.
I am glad that Passion is still doing stuff though. THE MORE (Good) WORSHIP CD's THE BETTER!
:)

FYI everyone. This post was from my opinion (a lead worshiper). Just b/c I used v.s. doesn't mean that I was trying to compare either movements validity.
(Good) Worship music.... good call Steve. There are LOTS of "worship" cd's out there, but not all are "good".

HILLSONG
Dangit!
I have both records.
I think Passion stuff is used in churches so much because most of the Tomlin songs are singable and very biblical. Not that others aren't. Most churches want songs that are easy.
Hillsong United songs as well as Hillsong church songs tend to be more artist, so they are a little harder to sing....or maybe they are just not easy.
I agree with Steve on the "Inside Out" (everlasting) song. Wow! I hope to use that one soon at my church.
Just so you know, we have been doing Bless The Lord for a few months. People seem to love it. Kudos....I just saw that you wrote on it.

Let's do it.
It's long bugged me that modern rock equals shallow heard-it-before lyrics. Putting words in your mouth I know but that's my take.

Passion has now been passed in the music of the Modern Worship Movement.
Hillsongs wins. Hands down.
I agree with most of the comments.
United is rocking the new hottness. It's about time for something other than Passion.
I think that I am still longing for something else though.

I think we're leaving out one. Despiration Band,"Ready Now," very refreshing song for me. Different sound. Jared Anderson has some lungs. I am more partial to Passion b/c there songs are very catchy and meaningful. However, Hillsongs stuff is as equally good. It all blesses the heart of God. I would just like to close with this statement. Charlie Hall is the most incredible worship leader I have ever sat under and he needs to be played on the radio more. God bless
