Where Songs Go To Die

Last night I found where songs go to die. Why no one ever talks about this I'll never understand. All of the songs that VH1 slam, and slander, all the "one hit wonders", and so forth....I found where they go to die!!!

The supermarket! In my case, Kroger. During my usual late night market run for the essentials I was stopped in my tracks to the sound of Jon Secada, and Paula Abdul (yes, she was a singer before she was a judge on American Idol). I believe it took 2 songs in a row to wake me from my task zoned self.

As I started to pay attention after the 2 80's hits, things started getting strange. I felt myself sinking into an odd state of thought process. For about 10 minutes, I was in a time warp zone that left me hopeless and abandoned. With each passing song I was left feeling like I was in a cruel experiment. Someone somewhere was charting my reaction to each passing "dead song"...New Kids On the Block, and other bands that I never knew (eventhough I had heard the song before)...an *NSYNC song that I have never heard!!! What is that!??! A 12 year old Justin Timberlake?!!?

Beware the next time you visit your local supermarket late at night (because that is when they do the experiments), for you too might experience the strange twisted sensation of Man In The Mirror by Michael Jackson.

A Thought

"God IS already the God that He will always be. He is not like wine or cheese, getting better with age. We can only hope to continue dying to ourselves while we embrace more of who He desires for us to be."

Culture, Hollywood, & Jessica Alba

I am not sure why everyone cares so much about Hollywood, film/ TV stars, etc. Maybe it is because our culture (if not world) holds celebrity opinion in high regard because they are rich, popular, and on magazine covers.

Not long ago I read this and thought this was interesting about Jessica Alba.

"Are you a born-again Christian?" someone asked Jessica.

"I used to be. When I was a kid, yeah," she said. "One of the reasons why I chose not to be a born-again Christian anymore is because a lot of people gave me a lot of grief for just being a woman and made me feel ashamed for having a body because it 'tempted men.' And I didn't understand what that meant, so it was like God created this and if that's what you guys are saying then I shouldn't be ashamed for being a woman, I should embrace it. That was a hard time in my life. It was really like a painful thing that I was going through."

Regardless of Jessica's faith status, I would hope that she uses her platform for good. We'll revisit this sometime soon.

Can you believe what Star Wars has done for the box office just this weekend?!?! A record 4 day world-wide total of 303 million. I saw the film on Saturday. It was dark.....AND great! Don't forget that one has to overlook the lack of acting goods in the Lucas epics. Yoda! Kicked ass he did.

Sometime in the future I would like to try to watch all 6 of the Star Wars movies one after the other. Though I am quite sure that would confirm my status as a loser.

Star Wars

Well I must say, Star Wars III was well worth the wait. It is amazing. I am sad that it is all over though.

This past week I had the opportunity to attend a private viewing at Skywalker Ranch (home to George Lucas). Mr. Lucas himself invited my wife and I out for a quick trip to CA. Turns out he is a fan of Among Thorns music. Who knew?!

OK, that's as far as I can go with this story. I'm not good at lying.

I'll be there sometime over the coming weekend, just like you.

I am going to guess that it will do over 80 million on the first day.

May the force be with you.

New Music

Cincinnati represent! Much love and props to Over The Rhine for their latest CD Drunkard's Prayer. I might be bias, but there is something to be said for music that has been around for over 10 years. I give this CD a 4 out of 5 stars....coming from a rock guy, that's good ehh?! (I was around a lot of Canadians this weekend). Speaking of, Congrats Jer and Erin (Jerin)!

The new Joy Williams latest record is here best so far. Genesis is a great record. CCM should be happy to have some Joy.

The tweeked foursome of Weezer has a great new release in Make Believe. I enjoy it more everytime I listen. Check it out.

One Truth Clothing Company

A few years ago I was watching a music video of P.O.D.. Sonny (front man) was wearing a shirt that caught my eye.

Several months ago I was contacted by the company that made the shirt that Sonny was wearing. Weird. They wanted me to endorse their lines and help get the message out. One Truth Clothing Company out of San Diego, CA has a mission. Go to the web site to get the whole skinny.

Since no one has ever really wanted me to endorse anything, I didn't really know what to do or say. After getting familiar with what One Truth stands for, not to mention having cool rockstar clothes, I have decided to rock their stuff. I am into clothes (probebly a little to much to be straight), and I enjoy believing in the story behind what I am wearing.
